Objectives

NECESSITY OF THE CREATION OF THE MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY

In many developed countries in the world, there has existed an advanced system of natural history museums that have the indispensable function of preserving national and world-wide natural precious specimens and objects.

Up to now there has not been any natural history museums in Vietnam. Formerly, in the country, there were established some independent natural history museums whose core have been formed to primarily collect and preserve the collections of plants, animals and minerals serving scientific research. During years of war, invasion, colonization, and famine, many precious heritages of Ho Chi Minh City were lost /or have been preserved by collectors and other museums in the world. Since the reunion of the nation, the remaining collections have been preserved and supplemented by competent agencies and institutions. Some of these agencies have also established inferior facilities for the natural museum serving their academic purposes. In general there has been no united management in order to improve efficiencies in preserving the natural history of Vietnam. The inexistence of the museum to the public may result in underestimating the country’s plentiful heritages. This appears to be very popular to both the youth and visitors.

Therefore, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has approved the proposal of the establishment of "The Natural History Museum" and facilitates this proposal as much as possible so that the project should be soon put in implementation.
